Merchant Banking Advisors, Inc. (MBA) was incorporated in the year 2000 and specializes in providing bespoke corporate finance and M&A advisory services.  Since its inception MBA has closed over 60 transactions.

John Richardson has over 30 years experience in international commercial and investment banking.  He has been involved in all aspects of corporate and project finance, venture capital, principal finance, leveraged buyouts across a wide variety of asset classes and industry groups.

Among his corporate assignments he was Associate Director at Nomura International Plc’s Principal Finance Group (now Terra Firma), Vice President of Investment Banking at Santander Securities, Managing Director of Investment Banking at Oriental Financial Services and Resident Vice President at Citicorp/Citibank.  John has lived and worked in London, New York, Melbourne, Madrid and Toronto, among others.  He’s currently based in San Juan, Puerto Rico where his family first settled in 1961.  Fully bilingual, he has an intimate knowledge of the local business environment.

Passionate about community service, John has served the boards of Alliance for the New Humanity (Co-founded by Deepak Chopra and Oscar Arias), the Children’s Museum, Casa La Providencia, Friends of the Forts and the Congress of Leaders. A Rotarian for 15 years, he was President of the San Juan Rotary Club, District Governor and District Rotary Foundation Chair.
